Guys, one day I’ll have the time to write something about me, I promise! But until that day I can tell you the basic facts which is that I am a Hungarian girl, well more like Mum of 2 (soon this will change to 3 as I’m expecting in June). We came to live in England, Cambridge in 2007. We lived in Budapest, capital of Hungary before. My daughter is nearly 6 (born in 2007), my son is heading towards 3 (born in 2010), and we are expecting another little girl.
Hello Olison. I do hope this message finds you. I love that you’re Hungarian. I was not born there, but I’m Hungarian and really would like to make your Franch Cream Pastry (Napoleon as you called it). It’s exactly like the Napoleon I had at a Hungarian Festival a few months ago. My cousin and I are hoping to find a similar recipe, but I could not find your recipe for the creams anywhere on your blog. I understand how the puffed pastry is used–and most likely baked separately. I’m so hoping you can share how you made this absolutely divine delicacy. And yes, it is what I’ve experience as a “Napoleon!” You nailed it!

Hi Michelle! Thank you for your message 🙂 My grandmother used to make this light and fluffy vanilla cream from scratch when I was little, but I make it by whipping milk with a sachet of special custard powder specially made for this dessert. I do remember though that my grandmother used lots of egg yolks and vanilla beans, sugar, and corn starch to make a thick custard then whipped the egg whites to a hard consistency, which she eventually folded carefully into the custard. Where about do you live? You might be able to buy this cream that I used in my cake.
