It’s been a busy but really lovely and warm (FINALLY) weekend here in Cambridge. A Hungarian friend of mine, who’s also my neighbour got married yesterday, and she wanted me to make their wedding cake. I have never done a wedding cake before, but since this was a small family gathering and she asked so nicely to make it I said yes.
Therefore I made myself a similar cake for Easter, only for practicing the recipe and of course the technique.
Here comes the “sketch” cake, which was blue with spring flowers -looks a little bit like a hat 🙂 :
I used the same recipe for both, only that for the actual wedding cake I put two more eggs + the additional extra flower and sugar each in the bottom cake and top cake as well, so it raised taller. I filled them with yummy chestnut cream, which is basically chestnut puree + double cream whipped together. This is very Hungarian, and very delicious! 🙂
Here is the little green wedding cake, as it was a green coloured wedding. I made 37 white rosebuds last week, and used 31 on the cake:
My cake made it to the wedding, and the guests were delighted 🙂
Let me share with you Szonja’s birthday table. I have enjoyed ever so much to make these!
She wanted for her party theme to have Marie Aristocats, so I set up a tea party with lots of Parisian bits and bobs, like French labels and French accordion cafe music in the background. And of course I made her a cake with Marie on top of it! It was a white sponge filled with pink strawberry chocolate cream. Sadly, I don’t have a picture of the cake inside.
Inscription next to Marie: Happines is being owned by a cat!
Made these pink heart shaped cake pops too:
The cupcakes -which I forgot to take a separate picture of- were plain vanilla cakes with buttercream frosting and I decorated them with edible pictures of Marie and some with sugar-paste roses.
There was another little cake on Szonja’s actual birthday, these is a reach chocolate cake with rosted hazelnuts, and has no cream filling. It was super delicios, I’ll make sure to remake it!
And finally here is my beautiful Birthday Girl and me 🙂
The menu was as pink as possible! I bought a varity of small pink candies and put them separately in little jars. Unbelievable, BUT these seemed to be the party’s most favourites, and they were all gone by the end. I put strawberries with small French flags. I put a melon with BBQ sticks with little cheese and cucumber cubes, cherry tomato, grapes and small piece of ham on each BBQ. I poured strawberry milkshake in little bottles -which I labeled first with each little girl’s name. And of course we had some little heart shaped butter and ham sandwiches, too. I spread on the table little China cups filled with pink flowers and small rose scented candles.
I’m awful sorry for not being able to post anything in the past weeks, but there has been so much going in the family, both good things and bad things. Good thing we have celebrated Szonja’s 5th Birthday with some of her friends from school, but only GIRLS, as this was -and IT REALLY WAS a very girly party! It was awesome, and they all loved it, but especially me! Ha-ha 🙂 She chosen 8 little girls instead of the initial 6 I planned, but since we had the party in the house I had to draw a line because of the space issue.
A week after her birthday party she has had an accident, she fell off her scooter! Now this was horrid…I wouldn’t go into details but there was much blood, and we rushed to the Emergency Hospital with her, then she had to go to a dentist for follow up. Good thing about this, that it could have been a lot worse! She has now 3 wobbly teeth and some scars under her nose which will fade away in time hopefully, and as for her teeth, these are her milk-teeth and the doctor said that her new teeth have not been affected. I sure hope not!
I’ve been making all the decorations for Szonja’s party, and have been baking cakes and cupcakes and cake pops, etc… I’ll bring the photos as soon as I can.
Right now I’m in the middle of making my first wedding cake for a friend. It will be a small, family wedding and a good opportunity for me to challenge myself!
So, that’s it for now…
